"666" and "Hail Satan" spray painted on eastern Henrico businesses

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Four businesses and a non-profit are cleaning up after a vandalism spree in eastern Henrico.  Sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning, somebody spray painted disturbing messages and symbols in the Mechanicsville Turnpike, East Laburnum Avenue area.

It didn't take an NBC12 news crew long to spot the images.

The initials SWF can be seen from Mechanicsville Turnpike. Then behind the Salvation Army the news crew found "666," a pentagram and the words "Hail Satan." Down the road, more graffiti was found on the tree and wall of another business.

We showed people around here what we found.

"That's crazy, the triangle is Satan? That's not good," said Jolita Fountain.

"Who would want to worship something like that?" added Beetee Moore.

According to the Salvation Army's website, the nonprofit is based on Christian principles, which makes these messages more unsettling for people who live around. NBC12 got a hold of the message sent to neighborhood crime watch leaders which said many of these businesses didn't have surveillance. There is only one store, according to that message, with a surveillance camera. It says the suspect description is vague but he was seen on a bicycle; wearing a red sweatshirt with white lettering or a white logo.

Ivan Allen says he believes this is a message of hate.

"Somebody is sick and demented," he said. "They're around there helping people not trying to hurt anybody so when they do something as ignorant as that, yeah, they need to go to jail."

If you know anything that could help police call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
