HANOVER, VA (WWBT) - A Hanover man faces DUI and felony hit-and-run charges in the death of a tow-truck driver on Interstate 295 in Hanover Thursday night.
Jason E. Bailey, 22, of Henrico was called to help a driver whose car broke down on the side of the interstate near the Mechanicsville exit around 8:25 p.m. Bailey was standing on the side of the road after loading the car onto his tow truck, when an SUV ran off the road, struck the wrecker and then Bailey, according to State Police.
The SUV spun around, overturned, and crashed into a ditch about 50 feet in front of the wrecker. The driver then ran into the woods towards a nearby subdivision, State Police said.
Residents described the man to two troopers who found him and took him into custody. Dwayne Gray Miller Jr., 31, of Mechanicsville, is now at Pamunkey Regional Jail on charges of DUI, refusal to submit to breath/blood sample, involuntary manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and obstruction of justice, according to police.
