Midlothian company behind alternative ballpark proposal

MIDLOTHIAN, VA (WWBT) - Representatives from a Midlothian company are now coming forward to publicly acknowledge their alternative plan for a privately financed baseball stadium on the Boulevard in Richmond.

In a statement on Thursday evening, the company said it had hoped to have more discussions with Richmond city officials before going public, but press reports in the Richmond Times-Dispatch forced a change in their plans.

"Our goal is to provide an alternative which, should the Bottom proposal not be successful, would allow for continued use of the Boulevard site for baseball while still allowing the redevelopment proposed by the Mayor," said company head Robert Hargett.

The development team for the project headed by Hargett includes several local investors. Past projects of the company include the $40 million Interbake (FFV) Building redevelopment. The entire Interbake ownership group is part of the team that would develop the ballpark, according to Rebke's press release.

Tonight at 6, NBC12 will have more on this developing story.
