Hanover woman describes scary home invasion and torture

Posted: Updated:

We now know what caused teachers and students to "shelter in place" at five Hanover schools on Tuesday.  Sheriff's deputies were searching for three men after a scary daytime home invasion.

It happened in the 8300 block of Whippoorwill Road.  The victim is talking to NBC12 and says she was tied up and tortured.  Luckily her injuries are minor

When Phitsamone Keovongphet left Laos with her family years ago, they escaped a life of fear.
But now she's in fear again, after three men forced their way into her home.  The marks on her wrists are reminders of what she went through.

Before tying her up, she says the men tortured her.  Keovongphet says the men forced her into the bathroom and then into the bath tub, she says they covered her face with at towel and poured water on it.  "He said, ‘Tell me! I need your money! Where's your money?'" she said.  Keovongphet says she is a custodian at a local high school.  She says they poured water over her face repeatedly.  "He said, "You want to die?'" she said.

The sheriff's office is now investigating and says the men covered their faces.  Keovongphet and her husband tell us, the men took items from the room they use to worship Buddha and poured water over their computer and other electronics.

"I feel sorry for her I truly do they have to be scared," says Lorraine Gillespie.  She saw the officers investigating from her home across the street.

"We've been a little concerned here lately because we've heard there's been problems behind us, you know break ins and people stealing things," says Gillespie.

The Kevongphet's are now trying to clean up the mess.

The Hanover Sheriff's office says the suspects took off on foot in an unknown direction.
