Flood warning issued for James and Appomattox rivers

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The James and Appomattox rivers are under a flood warning.

The James River is currently at 8.2' and expected to rise above the 12' flood stage by midnight, peaking at near 14.8' by Friday morning.

The flooding could affect areas in Chesterfield, Richmond and Henrico along the river.

The Appomattox River is also expected to flood above Farmville, affecting Amelia, Cumberland and Prince Edward. Minor flooding at Mattoax could also affecting Powhatan.

Officials say to use extreme caution near riverbanks and move to higher ground if rising water threatens your safety.
