Shockoe Bottom is one of Virginia's most endangered historic sites, according to Preservation Virginia.

The organization said the public-private Revitalize RVA Plan will adversely impact historic and archaeological resources in Shockoe Bottom. The area has historic significance as the site of the center of the domestic commercial wholesale slave trade from 1730 to 1865.

Other endangered sites are:

•  Christiansburg's Phlegar Building

•  Petersburg's Pocahontas Island Historic District

•  Old Concrete Road (Prospect Road), the original access to the top of Roanoke's Mill Mountain

•  Approximately 800 historic school buildings

•  The Hook-Powell-Moorman Farm

•  James River Viewshed

•  The Town of Pamplin City and Columbia

•  The Southside Roller Mill, Chase City

•  Bristoe Station Battlefield and Williamsburg Battlefield
