Friends & family gather to honor Chesterfield car wreck victim

Countless friends and loved ones gathered Sunday night to remember Tyler Patnaude who was killed in a car wreck in Chesterfield.

Patnaude was the only one in the car who did not survive.

More than a hundred people attended, all wearing red, the school's color, in Tyler's honor.

Candles were lit by everyone to honor the Cosby High School student's memory.

Tyler was going to attend the New Mexico Military Institute next year. His mother Yvonne Patnaude says her son already ordered a sweatshirt.

He was so proud, he put his name on the back.

Tyler will never get the chance to attend his dream school.

Now, his family is trying to find peace.

Tyler's main joy was sailing.

"He loved to sail. And the water is where he loved to be," said Yvonne.

Tyler was a strong competitor and an instructor.

He was better known, however, as a loving friend to most everyone.

"Can't imagine my life without him right now," said friend, Chandler Boin.

His friends say he was loving towards everyone.

"Even the people that nobody really talked to in school, he was the first one to go up to them with a huge smile and wanted to be friends with everybody," said friend, Alec Gendron.

"He was sweet. And he was always so grateful. He would always say thank you. He appreciated everything. He was a giver," said Yvonne.

Now, Tyler will give with his legacy.

"He sailed as much as he could. That's all he ever wanted to do, was be out on the water," said Gendron.

"He's at peace, and that gives us peace and hope," added Yvonne.
