Family & community speak about latest Harding Street homicide

Posted: Updated:

Overcome with grief, Lamour Tucker and her sister Kawanda could barely speak about the death of their uncle, 25-year-old Akeim Easter.

"He didn't do anything. He didn't deserve this.  He was just sitting on his porch and someone just walked up to him and shot him," Kawanda Tucker said.

That porch is now becoming a memorial for a man that family and friends say loved helping others.

Akeim had just been helping out at the funeral services Saturday for the four people who were found dead a week ago, a few doors down from where his own life was taken.

"He was just at the funeral helping out, helping out all week with the car wash, stopping cars.  He raised money and donations, he helped carry the casket out of the funeral--now we got to carry him," Delonda Gregory said.

Family members say they never thought that the father of two young boys would meet the same fate as his own father. They say years ago, he was also killed by a gunshot wound to the head just blocks away from Harding street.

"It's going to hurt because I know that he is gone and he can't be here for his 1-year-old and his 4-year-old," Delonda Gregory said.

While investigators comb the neighborhood searching for answers, relatives are leaning on each other because they say for now "each other" is all they have.

"We are just going to have to stay strong and pray; that is all we can do," Kawanda Tucker said.
