STAFFORD, VA (WWBT) -

A foreign exchange student from Saudi Arabia is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in the Stafford County home where he was staying. Now the mother of the victim is also in custody.

Hamad Mastour Alsuwat, 20, was staying with a family in a quiet suburban neighborhood just outside Fredericksburg. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol arrested Alsuwat on Sunday at Washington Dulles International Airport.

Police charged him with sexually assaulting the 17-year-old daughter of the couple he had been living with since September. The girl suffers from autism.

In a surprising twist to this story, police revealed they have charged the mother of that girl with trying to help Alsuwat escape.

According to court documents, the mother - whose name has not been released to protect the victim - had been covering for Alsuwat since November, when her husband caught his wife and Alsuwat having sex in a shed behind their house.

Now both she and Alsuwat are in jail.

Investigators are not releasing many details about the case because of the sensitive nature of the investigation.

Two people are being helped by the Red Cross, after a fire broke out at their Richmond home. Crews tell us the fire broke out in the 5500 block of Campbell Avenue around 10:55 this morning. When they got on scene, fire crews saw flames coming from the back of the home. They were able to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes. Officials say everyone got out safely, but the damage was so bad, that a man and woman living in the home have to find a new place to live.
