HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Critical violations range from food not being kept hot enough, sitting on top of an oven, to food sitting on the floor in this edition of the NBC12 Restaurant Report.
We begin at Pepes Mexican Restaurant at 9550 Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield, which had 5 critical violations on its last health inspection. The report says shredded chicken and beef, rice and refried beans weren't being kept hot enough on the steam table, and two pans of rice were sitting on top of an oven. The inspector wrote that they were told not to try to keep food hot that way, and to turn up the steam table. They did. Pepes earned a perfect score when the inspector went back 10 days later.
Up next, the Metro Grill at 301 North Robinson Street in Richmond. It had 4 critical violations, including that the waffle iron was soiled to sight and touch. But that and other problems were all corrected by the follow-up inspection the next week.
And finally, Pho So One Vietnamese Restaurant at 6403 Rigsby Road in Henrico had 4 critical violations. The inspector noted that bags of carrots and onions were on the floor, and boxes of food were on the floor of the walk-in freezer. The Health Department required that food be stored at least 6 inches off the floor. The report says critical violations were corrected on the spot.
