Save more at Flying Squirrels games

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The 2014 season for the Flying Squirrels is under way and many of us are itching to get back to ball field.

Both of Alison Brown's sons love the sport, but she isn't going to pay full price for her family of four.

"I don't like doing something if I know I can pay less to do it," said Brown.

Alison seeks out free and cheap family events and lists them on her site, richmondbargains.com. She's one of our area's foremost savings experts and has found almost every way you can save at Flying Squirrels games.

"Usually we end up on the upper levels. It saves a few dollars for sure," said Brown.

Alison likes to go on Sundays, because her kids are part of the "Squirrels Tails Kids Club." You sign up online for free. Children 14 and under get free tickets and ice cream every Sunday for the entire season!

"They also have activities for kids on those days. Sometimes you can go out beforehand and play catch on the field," said Brown.

If you've eaten under the golden arches, save your receipt for big savings during Monday games.

"It's buy one ticket get one free," said Brown.

Got a smart child? Each 'A' on a 3rd or 4th quarter report card gets that student a free ticket. Eight 'A's would be eight tickets to eight different games!

"They just have to show them at the box office. Show their report card," said Brown.

Wednesdays feature happy hour. $2 beers until an hour after first pitch. Those age 60 and up are eligible for "Silver Squirrels" - score tickets and other free concessions at 10 Tuesday games for only $25.

Alison says if you really want to save, eat your meal before you go and only buy snacks.

"Get Cracker Jacks. They're pretty reasonable - $3 or something," said Brown.
