Hip replacement can be a difficult decision, but if done correctly can immeasurably change the life of those impacted. One Neighborhood Health Watch doctor is having a lot of success by replacing hips with artificial versions that are put in place from the front instead of the back.
Hip replacement is a pretty major surgery. Anterior hip replacement doesn't necessarily matter much long term, but in the short term it can make a big difference.
Dr. David Miller, an orthopedic surgeon with OrthoVirginia, explains that the recovery is much quicker and patients can get back to a normal life soon.
"The big advantage to doing it up through the front is that patients tend to get up and move much quicker and their knee is more stable."
Candidates for this type of surgery are those with debilitating hip pain. In many cases, pain specifically caused by arthritis.
