PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - Petersburg is asking all residents affected by Monday's water main break to continue boiling drinking water "until further notice."
Tuesday, Petersburg Public Works said residents should continue boiling water for 24 hours after the water was turned back on around 6 p.m. Now they want to complete testing on the water before giving the OK.
The water is being tested by the Appomattox River Water Authority. It is unknown how long it will take for testing to be completed.
The city is working with Food Lion to distribute free water to residents. You can pick up the water at the Food Lion located at 2120 South Crater Road until 7 p.m. Wednesday. Two gallons will be given to each family.
