The heart wrenching moment when Kelly Wood was shot in the head and left for dead will forever live on in her memories. She was working the night shift at a Fas-Mart in Spotsylvania County when she was shot in the head by a man police are still searching for.
Kelly survived and a month later, she is out of the hospital and celebrating her recovery with family and friends.
"Its unbelievable, its amazing and its got my heart so full of joy to see all of these people wanting to be here to support me and my family," Kelly Wood said.
The event named, "Wishes for Kelly" drew hundreds of people who came out to show their support by donating money, buying raffle tickets and food.
"Every bit of it will go to the Kelly Wood fund which will make her not have to worry about wether or not she is going to be out of work for a little while," Rita Rose said.
Saturday is all about Kelly Wood and her miraculous recovery. By the show of support, she is loved by many in her community.
"She is a very sweet person, she has children it should not have happened and she is a very strong woman," Vicki Kidwell said.
Kelly Wood says she is stronger than ever now, with her family and entire community by her side.
"It gives me more hope knowing that people are behind me wanting to see me recuperate, its awesome, its amazing. No words can explain it," Wood said.
