Chesterfield bar gets critical violation after employee touches broom, then food

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - In tonight's Restaurant Report, a bar employee was wearing gloves and touching a broom, then handled food wearing the same gloves.

The health inspection report shows it happened at the Brass Monkeys Bar at 12211 Jefferson Davis Highway in Chesterfield. The bar had four critical violations, but the report shows all critical violations, including the broom incident, were corrected on the spot.

A somewhat similar problem at Cine'Bistro in Stony Point Shopping Center. An inspector wrote that food staff of this restaurant and movie theatre touched the bar with bare hands, then polished glassware without washing their hands or using gloves. Also among their four critical violations, the report says a knife, cutting board, and Lexan containers were soiled to sight and touch.

Cine'Bistro management sent us the following statement:

"The health and safety of our guests are always our top priorities. All inspection observations were immediately addressed and corrected, and no re-inspection is needed by the health department. Additionally, procedures and protocols have been reinforced with our team to maintain excellence at all levels of food quality, service and safety measures. We have previously received high health score ratings and are confident in our health and safety procedures moving forward."

Our camera caught employees cleaning at this week's NBC12 Hall of Fame Award winner. Quiznos at 6102 Brashier Boulevard in Hanover, known for its toasted subs, has earned perfect scores on its last five health inspections in a row.

Explained staff member Shay Chenault, "Of course when the surroundings are cleaner, you're going to be safer. Customers like to come in an see a clean place."
