Richmond family mourns death of 20-year-old at the hands of other relatives

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - At a vigil held for Samantha Myers Wednesday night, loved ones said they're mourning her loss and also those police say are responsible.

Family and friends are trying to understand why a 20-year-old girl was murdered, apparently at the hands of her own relatives.

Police say, Sam was killed in February by her stepsister Yvette Hairston. Hairston's daughter and daughter's boyfriend also appear to have played a role.

NBC12 was the first to report the third arrest in this case, 25-year-old Jamarr Hursey. Hursey is 21-year-old Selena's boyfriend and was picked up by US Marshals Wednesday afternoon and is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

At the vigil, held near the bridge where Sam's body was found, her family asked for prayers for the murder victim and suspects, too.

"I'm gonna miss Samantha," said Donna Hall-Weathers, Sam's aunt. "I also ask that y'all pray for Yvette and Selena please. They need all the prayers that we can offer."

Also at the vigil, Samantha's only brother recalls the last time he spoke with his sister.

"I knew something was going to happen," said Andrew Myers. "Last time she called me was in January and she said, 'Andrew they're beating me up and they're taking my money.'"

A month later, Samantha was dead. Her body was dumped in a ravine under a footbridge on North Hopkins Road.

NBC12 has been told that funeral arrangements are being made and there are plans to bury Sam in Maury Cemetery in Richmond, right next to her deceased mother.
