Neighborhood Health Watch: The importance of sleep

Sleep is a wonderful thing and many of us are not getting enough of it.

The problem is not sleeping enough could lead to bigger problems- including a serious issue with one of your most important organs.

The average person needs between seven and a half to eight hours of sleep a night.

If you don't get it- you are putting your heart at risk.

At one time it was thought people with serious forms of sleep apnea were the only ones vulnerable to heart  problems.

According to Dr. Dimi Barot of HCA Virginia Sleep Centers/Sleep Clinics of America there are many more people who could be at risk.

But with the advancements in technology treating the problem at home has become much easier.

"These machines are very lightweight, you can see they are easy to use it almost has the Apple model of the one touch intuitiveness and this is a mask they used to be things that covered your face, but now you are talking about Ryan: And it looks good too Dr: I wouldn't say it is sexy, but better than it used to be."

They may not be beautiful but they get the job done. They are an easy to use treatment tool.
