Residents concerned about water damage after Richmond apartment fire

Fire crews were called to the 1400 block of West Marshall Street for a general alarm at the Eagle Mill Apartments.

A utility closet fire on the third floor set off the sprinkler system Wednesday night, according to Richmond Fire officials. The fire was contained by the sprinkler system but residents are now concerned about water damage.

"From the hallway you could see the water coming towards you. You can smell the smoke. You can't see it, but you can smell it coming," said Ibrahim Keita, who had water damage in his apartment.

The second and third floor had some water damage but most residents were allowed back inside.

One person, who lives directly below the unit where the fire started, was displaced.

No one was injured in the fire.
