HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Donors have contributed more than $20,000 to a fund set up for a dog shot and left for dead in Amelia.

Morgan, a one-year-old puppy, had a front leg amputated and requires even more surgery on her back legs after she was shot several times.

The Capitol Area Rescue Effort (CARE) raised thousands of dollars, but got a big boost Tuesday with media reports on their efforts. In less than 24 hours the efforts GoFundMe page brought in more than $15,000.

The group was hoping to raise $3,000 to fund two more surgeries, as well as a little extra for physical therapy after the procedure. CARE says the extra funds raised will be used to help other needy dogs in their rescue, including Luna, a husky mix with a broken pelvis.

Morgan's first surgery is scheduled for March 28.  There will be an eight week recuperation period between the two surgeries.

Once recovered, Morgan may be used as a therapy dog to help children and even veterans who have gone through similar situations.

If you would like to contribute to Morgan's medical costs you can donate online at http://www.gofundme.com/6qcbec  or contact CARE at 804-291-7918.
