Chesterfield Police charge student for bringing knives to school

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield Police have charged a 12-year-old middle school student after he brought several knives to campus.

Police say the student brought three folding knives to Falling Creek Middle School. One of the blades is longer than three inches.

A student alerted a teacher after seeing the knives. Police say the student charged did not threaten anyone with the knives.

"We take very seriously our responsibility to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that is free from disruption," said Chesterfield Schools spokesperson Shawn Smith. "Students who violate student conduct regulations are subject to suspension and/or expulsion, and, if the offense is a violation of the law, to prosecution."

Police have charged the student with possession of a weapon on school property.
