Shamrock the Block takes over the Boulevard

Posted: Updated:

If you were one of the thousands on the Boulevard in Richmond on Saturday, you probably saw a lot of green thanks to 11th Annual Shamrock the Block Festival.  The Richmond tradition featured music, area vendors and lots of green beer.

It was in a different location this year and those who take in the festival annually say, they approve.

"I love this area.  It is a great spot for this party," said Jennifer Witt.

Event organizers said this year's festival would offer more events, more activities for kids and more bands.

After this video went viral of a man getting into a scuffle with Richmond Police officers at last year's festival, some say they felt this year's event was more tame in comparison.

"I think it's a little calmer.  I mean, it's a bigger crowd--there are a lot more people here but it is a little bit calmer than it was at the old place, I think," Witt said.

The extra crowd caused a small problem, at least for some, in the form of longer lines.

"I had to wait like 4 hours for a glass of beer but it is well worth it," said Blake Storey.

At the end of the day, for most the festival was about one thing.

"There is a lot of green out here.  People are having fun," said Witt.
