Richmond college match up brings economic and student boom

While everyone in New York is heading to their seats inside the arena, fans here at home are heading to local watch parties to see the two Richmond colleges square off.

Vesna Mitrovick is looking to get her hands on Ram-wear before heading up to New York this evening to watch Saturday's big game, which she hopes will include VCU.

"Everyone should come out and buy their gear, because it's going quick, but I'm excited to see what else we are going to have with our new logos," said Vesna Mitrovick. "I really like it. We have, like, five different ones."

While VCU and the University of Richmond could not tell us the impact the national attention is having on their prospective students and their enrollment we did find that merchandise for both teams is a hot commodity.

"VCU is used to it, everybody sees VCU on TV all the time, and we bring out the best and we have the best fans and best cheers," Jasna Mitrovick said.

The games are happening at a time when prospective students visit both schools. Several students say that any national attention that the schools get helps send more students wether they play sports or not to their schools.

"The last game we started off so well, and right at the end things kind of went down here from their and people have been getting pretty excited about it," Vivi Verhey said.

Lit Maxwell not only attended U of R but is now also a professor there. He says only good can come from the university being in the national spotlight.

"Its good for everybody, its a great conference we are in and its good for all the teams to be seen we are one of the top conferences in the country," Maxwell said.
