Snagajob: Start looking now if you want to get a summer job

Spring hasn't even arrived yet, but local experts say it's already time to start thinking summer, especially if you are in the market for a job. You better start looking now if you want to get an edge on the competition.

Kim Costa coaches job seekers at snagajob on how to put their best foot forward.

"There are jobs to be had, you just have to make sure you take the right steps to get them," said Costa.

If a summer job is what you need, now is the time to decide what you'd like to do.

"You really want to think about the places that are gonna need more staff in the summer - so restaurants, retail and also hospitality, tourist places, hotels... things like that," said Costa.

There is a bit of a disconnect between the time employers start looking for potential hires and the time that applicants start applying. To increase your chances of getting hired, now is the time to apply.

"End of March, beginning of April is when you really need to start looking," said Costa.

Costa says companies want to have employees trained and in place when summer arrives. To set yourself apart from the competition, she says don't be afraid to be aggressive.

"Something as simple as following up on your job application, walking into the stores saying that you applied and you wanted to follow up, and ask them if they have any questions. That can really help you stand out."
