Marshall beats Wythe for VA high school boys basketball title

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - John Marshall beat George Wythe Thursday 74-56 to win the group 3A boys basketball state championship.

The game marked the first time in history that two boys programs from Richmond city schools will meet for a state championship.

Marshall has won six titles all-time and were runners-up last year.  Wythe last played for a state championship in 2002.  The Bulldogs have never won a basketball state championship.

The two teams have met twice this year with each team winning once.  Wythe won the last meeting in the region finals.
