Mom says her teenage son was unarmed when he was shot in Richmond

At a vigil held Thursday for their dead son, two grieving parents insist he was murdered. 16-year-old Robert Fox was found shot to death last Tuesday morning in a South Richmond neighborhood.

Robert's mom says, her son was unarmed at the time of the shooting. While police haven't commented on that, NBC12 has learned the case could go to a grand jury.

Patricia and Robert Fox, Senior say that the teenager was murdered. Sources say the shooting could have involved the gunman defending his property.

Sources tell NBC12 Robert was with friends last Monday night and was possibly breaking into cars but his father says, that can't be.

"That doesn't seem like Robert to do that," said Robert Fox, Sr. "If Robert needed something, he asked for it. He wasn't the type of person to break into cars."

"I really, truly believe that this was murder," said Patricia Fox.

While police say they've identified the person who shot Robert, that person hasn't been arrested or charged.

The Commonwealth's Attorney says he may present the case to a grand jury, which could then decide whether to move forward with an indictment.

"I want justice to be served," said Fox, Sr.

While the truth of what happened that night is still a mystery to most, Robert's family is asking for more witnesses to come forward and speak up.

Meanwhile, the teen's family also says, they are having trouble paying for the teen's funeral. They have set up a bank account in his name, which you can donate to at any Well's Fargo bank.
