Henrico mom accused of leaving 1-year-old and 5-year-old home alone

A Henrico mom is facing charges after police say she left her small children home alone.

21-year-old Raiesha Jones' children are only one and five years old. She's charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor but is now in more legal trouble because, according to the Henrico Juvenile and Domestic court records, she didn't make her court date Wednesday morning.

"You turn your back for a few minutes, he grabbing scissors anything they can cut themselves do anything," said Tonya Ferguson.

Ferguson is babysitting and knows she better keep a watchful eye. Also a mother of two, she can't believe her neighbor, Jones, is now accused of leaving her two sons home alone.

"It's no excuse, a 1-year and 5-year-old? That's just, no!" she said.

Police say it happened last week at an apartment in the 200 block of Engleside Drive. It was just after 8 p.m. on Thursday, officers say a tipster called it in. Police say when Jones got home, the officers were already there. Police won't say how long the children were left by themselves but say they weren't injured.

Child Protective Services was called, and Jones was charged five days later. She turned herself in, and according to court documents, made bond but did not show up for court on Wednesday.  Now, another arrest warrant for Jones has been filed.

Police say the children's location is "unknown" at this time.
