Storm, speed blamed for deadly Amelia crash

AMELIA, VA (WWBT) - A 30-year-old man died in a crash on Route 614 in Amelia Monday morning, according to Virginia State Police.

The man was driving near Route 680, Maxey Lane, just before 11 a.m. when he lost control of his truck and ran off the left side of the road. The truck struck an embankment then flipped onto the passenger side and struck a tree.

The driver was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police believe his speed and the weather conditions led to the accident. Troopers are now working to notify his next of kin before releasing his identity.
