SPOTSYLVANIA, VA (WWBT) - A 42 year old Spotsylvania man is now in custody accused of abducting and assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Deputies responded to a domestic violence call in the 11900 block of Belafonte Road, at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday.  Prior to deputies arriving, the E-911 center communications officer relayed that the victim had reported being assaulted by the suspect, an ex-boyfriend, later identified as Ross Carter.  The communications officer also relayed information to Deputies that Carter was heard forcing the victim into a vehicle and leaving the area. By the time they arrived Carter and the victim were gone.

Officers sent out a BOLO for a dark gray Dodge Challenger with Maryland tags to all surrounding jurisdictions in reference to the welfare of the female victim and her possible injuries. Around 12 p.m. Saturday, State Troopers spotted the vehicle near Lewiston Road and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, but he did not stop. After a brief pursuit Carter took off on foot into the woods.  A K-9 team eventually located Carter, but he took off again and was caught a short time later.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants for Carter, charging him with Felony Abduction and Malicious Wounding.  He was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

The victim was transported by ambulance, to Rappahannock Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for injuries she received during the abduction by Carter.  She was listed in good condition and was subsequently treated and released from the hospital.
