50 new jobs come to Chesterfield with chemical company expansion

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A German-based chemical company will invest $15 million to create a business and innovation center in Chesterfield.

Evonik Industries says the move will create 50 jobs in the county over the next five years and renovate and refurbish a vacant building at the Chesterfield Airport Industrial Park.

The company says the expansion will not impact its manufacturing facility in Hopewell, which will continue to employ more than 100 workers.

Virginia won the bid over Indiana and New Jersey, Governor Terry McAuliffe said in a Thursday morning press conference. The Governor's Opportunity Fund provided a $500,000 check to the company as part of the development agreement.
