Screams of joy could be heard all throughout this Henrico neighborhood as family and friends of 13 year-old Nicholas Smith learned that he had been found safe Sunday afternoon.

"The neighbors and the family were overwhelmed they were overwhelmed that he had been found and he was alright it is a blessing," Carter said.

For more than five hours Henrico police, fire, and members of Virginia Depart of Emergency Management worked relentlessly scoured the neighborhood on foot and by air.

Family members waited at their home while authorities set up a staging area for the search at nearby J Sergeant Reynolds Community College.

News of the young teen's disappearance spread fear and concern throughout the close knit community.

"I couldn't understand why he got missing knowing his parents. I couldn't understand, its just too much for me to comprehend why he would just walk out of the house."

Nicholas was reported missing around 8:00 Sunday morning. A friend of the family say it was his 8 year-old sister who discovered that her older brother had left the home.

Evelyn Carter told us today that the young boy was found not too far from his home at his grandmother's house.

"His other grandmother was over here and she told them I'm going home and I will be back. When she went home that is where he was at her house," Carter said.

Family say all that matters now is that he is home safe with those who love him the most.
