Tree smashes into car in Henrico's West End

Homeowners in Henrico County are dealing with the damage from Friday's storm, including one woman whose car was hit just moments after she got out.

Donna Gaydick usually parks in front of her home on Rutgers, but for some reason today she decided to pull into the driveway. It's a decision she would soon regret after hearing loud noises outside her home during a severe storm.

"I thought, 'oh well, maybe its just branches and nothing happened to the car,'" Donna Gaydick said.

The people living at the home next door heard a loud crash - that was the sound of a tree popping in two, falling onto their neighbor's car.

"Basically, the tree came down and smashed the roof of the car and the windshield and damaged the front, and you can see the bush that we had really and truly stopped the other branches from severely hitting the roof line," Gaydick said.

Tom O'Connell lives next door to Donna. He offers advice to others who are coming home to find property damage from Friday's storm.

"Pray and call the insurance company," O'Connell said.

Donna's home wasn't the only one in the area damaged. Several trees fell just a mile away. A shed in the backyard of one home was also smashed.
