RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A few minutes of your time could save a child's life - the CDC says auto accidents are one of the leading causes of child deaths, and much of that is because child seats aren't used, or improperly installed.
This Friday, the Virginia Department of Health will offer free checks for safety and booster seats. Experts can make sure they're installed correctly. You'll also be asked to fill out a short form for proper fits, expirations, and recalls.
The event is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Henrico Police central station at Virginia Center Commons. Each check should take about 20 to 30 minutes.
Virginia law requires children to be properly restrained until their eighth birthday, by using a child safety seat or a booster seat.
Similar opportunities take place all year across Virginia. Click here to take a look at what's available: http://www.vdh.virginia.gov/ofhs/prevention/cps/permanent.htm
