RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond Police are investigating a shooting that sent three people to the hospital, including a child.
The call came in around 7 p.m. Tuesday for a shooting in the Fine Food store parking lot in the 4900 block of Government Road.
According to the Richmond Police Department, several officers were in the area and heard the gunshots. Those officers were able to respond quickly.
An adult male, adult female, and a boy under the age of 10 were all shot. They were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
A witness at the scene said he heard 10 to 12 gunshots and took off running. He said, he later realized his friend had been shot.
Right now, investigators say, it doesn't appear that the three victims are related but they are putting out a call for action to the Greater Fulton community.
"Our youngest victim is a juvenile and people shouldn't stand for that," said Lt. Dan Minton with Richmond Police. "We desperately need people to come out and tell us what happened."
Richmond forensic crews were on scene with a K-9 unit and spent hours gathering evidence.
Police also say two black males in their late teens were seen running from the scene but have little else to say about possible suspects. Investigators weren't able to comment on how the suspects knew the victims or who those bullets were meant for.
