Bedden responds to changes in RPS

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond's superintendent is speaking out about RPS hiring for more than a dozen high level positions in the district.

Doctor Dana Bedden appears to be making some large shifts in the way the system is run. Those changes are expected to impact the way children are educated in city schools.

Bedden said some of the people in those positions have decided to retire, some of the posts have been restructured and others are "going in a different direction."

"We got to have institutional memory, we got to have the idea that we can acknowledge that there are some talented people inside the district, but we also want to bring people in who have seen things done differently so we can add new fresh ideas," said Bedden.

School board members say this is the reason they hired Bedden, to bring about change.
