Giant, Martin's stores remove Hot Pockets from shelves after recall

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Giant and Martin's grocery stores nationwide are removing Hot Pockets Philly Steak & Cheese from their shelves following a massive beef recall.

Giant/Martin's said it stopped selling the product after being notified by Nestle USA, which makes the snack food.

The decision stems from a massive meat recall earlier this month involving nearly nine million pounds of beef and veal products from Rancho Feeding Corporation in California.

Federal officials say the meat came from diseased animals that weren't properly inspected.

No illnesses have been reported.

The meat was shipped to distribution centers and retail establishments in California, Florida, Illinois and Texas between January 2013 and 2014.

Giant/Martin's said it has received no reports of illnesses to date. If you bought any of the products listed below, you should discard whatever is left and bring your receipt to Giant/Martin's for a full refund.

The following products are included in this recall:

  • Hot Pocket Philly Steak & Cheese, 9 oz., UPC4369507107, Batch numbers:
