MECHANICSVILLE, VA (WWBT) -
With snow swirling around her, Anne Decker strapped on her cross-country skis and braved the storm for a trip to the grocery store in Mechanicsville. She decided to get some wine.
So, she trekked more than a mile on her skis, down Atlee Road to the store around 11 p.m. Wednesday. Her trip including crossing Chamberlayne Road, one of the busiest intersections in town. Of course, no one was on the road because the conditions were too treacherous. The governor had declared a State of Emergency for the Commonwealth and urged everyone to stay home, but that didn't stop Decker.
Decker, who moved to Central Virginia two years ago to get away from the snow in Altoona, PA, skied right into the store. She put her skis in her grocery cart and got her bottle of wine.
The manager told her she was the first customer to ever ski in and grabbed a camera to take a picture with her in the snow, Decker says.
"You gotta find a way to make humor out of any situation," Decker explained.
She posted the photo on her Facebook page and called NBC12. The post on the station's page where Facebook fan Cynthia Wilkinson Joyce wondered, "Training for the 2018 games?"
