Virginia State Police responded to more than 800 crashes statewide in the first 12 hours of the storm, with more than a quarter of them in the Richmond division.
Out of the 841 crashes State Police responded to between 4 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m.Thursday, 229 were in the Richmond division, which stretches from King William to Dinwiddie and Louisa to Northumberland. In all, troopers responded to 437 total calls for service in the division.
The majority of crashes only involved damage to vehicles and no injuries, State Police said. There were no reported traffic deaths during that time period.
Virginia Department of Transportation crews have been plowing and treating roads across the state starting with interstate and primary routes, while are mostly in moderate condition. The rain around metro Richmond actually helped break down some of the snow on major roads, but now they are wet and slick.
Secondary roads are mostly snow and ice covered, according to VDOT. They ask drivers to limit their travel, drive slowly and leave more distance between your vehicle and others.
