February 13 RESTAURANT REPORT: Japanese buffet gets 9 critical violations

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A Japanese buffet had nine critical violations on its last health inspection and some of the same problems were repeated on the follow-up inspection.

Ichiban Grill and Supreme Buffet at 6443 Centralia Road opened more than two years ago, serving Japanese cuisine. Since then it's done well on health inspections. But this last time, it had 9 critical violations, so we went over.

Among the problems, the report says there were a few flies in the rear storage area and by the cooling rack, and heavy rusting inside the cover on the rice cooker. When the inspector went back two weeks later, those problems were fixed but the report shows 4 critical violations, including the repeated problem of food on the buffet not being kept hot enough. The manager told us everything has been corrected and the owner would call us.

Next we move to Henrico, where Lemongrass Thai and Vietnamese Cuisine at 3402 Pump Road, usually earns better scores, too. But it had 4 critical violations. The inspector wrote that an employee in the appetizer area coughed several times without covering his mouth. The report says the employee was sent home until the coughing stopped and other violations were fixed.
