RVA snow storm shuts down Nickel Bridge, downtown corridor

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond crews spent much of the night clearing snow covered roads. They worked as Janet Morgan came home only to find she had run out of heating oil.

"I had no heat," said Morgan. "They said help is on the way. We are very busy, but we are coming."

Help arrived just in time. Morgan says things were starting to get uncomfortable.

"It got down to 55 in the house," said Morgan holding her small son. "We have space heaters, but 55 with a little guy is too cold."

We actually had to park our truck at 9th and Main Street. Caution tape and flares were placed along 9Th Street because of the treacherous hill heading toward Broad Street.

"It's crazy out here," said driver Steven Bunce. "They have streets blocked off. You can't get home."

The snow storm forced officials to close the Nickel Bridge. Our dash-cam video caught drivers slipping and sliding. Some motorists ignored the "road closed" sign. They ultimately had to receive assistance from police.
