Kotsenburg wins gold for US in first Olympic event

American Sage Kotsenburg claimed the first gold medal of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games Saturday with a win in the Men's Snowboarding Slopestyle. It was the event's Olympic debut.

Earlier this week, Shaun White pulled out of the slopestyle to focus on the halfpipe and ensure 100 percent health going into Tuesday's event. The American's didn't skip a beat, as Kotsenburg posted a score of 93.50, beating out Norway's Staale Sandbech, who scored 91.75. Kotsenburg was the only member of Team USA to reach the final.
