February 6 RESTAURANT REPORT: sanitation was lacking

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A fast food restaurant was told to clean things up by a health inspector. And two other eateries weren't keeping some food hot enough, according to their inspection reports. Here's this week's NBC 12 Restaurant Report.

In Henrico, Hardee's at 4841 South Laburnum Avenue had 4 critical violations. The inspector wrote that overall sanitation was lacking and a lot of cleaning was needed. Critical violations were fixed on the spot.

Next we move to Chesterfield. We showed you when Shane's Rib Shack opened in June at 11501 Busy Street in Chesterfield. It's been doing well on its health inspections, until this last one: 6 critical violations and 11 non-critical. The report says pork ribs and pork butts were not reheated hot enough, and ribs and chicken in the hot box were also at improper temperatures. The inspector wrote that they corrected violations during the inspection and earned a perfect score on the follow-up two weeks later. The report says all the managers are being ServeSafe certified.

Also in Chesterfield, Chen's Chinese, at 13104 Kingston Avenue, also had 6 critical. Among them, the report says rice was not being kept hot enough and food storage containers were not being sanitized. Violations were corrected while the inspector was on site. It had one critical on the follow-up inspection, which was corrected.

This week's NBC12 Hall of Fame Award goes to Tripps Restaurant, 9318 West Broad Street in Henrico. It has aced three health inspections and hasn't had a critical violation in two years.
