HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - A 15-year-old Sandston girl has died from injuries she received when a car she was in crashed into the Chickahominy River.

Amanda Irby of Sandston died Wednesday at VCU Medical Center. She was in a car driven by Andrew Walters Monday, when police tried to pull him over. Instead police say he sped off, crashing in White Oak Swamp near the intersection of White Oak and East Williamsburg roads.

Henrico Police and fire responded and found Irby and another woman inside the car. Both were taken to the hospital and remain in critical condition.

Police, with the help of the fire department, found Walters about a mile away from the crash site and took him to the hospital to be treated for exposure.

Walters is being held at the Henrico County Jail without bond. He is charged with driving on a suspended license, failing to pull over for officers, proving false information to officers and an unrelated assault warrant from Hanover. He may face additional charges in the crash.
