CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield school officials have decided to eliminate the President's Day holiday and cancel two early-releases days due to missed instruction caused by snow days.
Students and staff will now have to report to school and work on President's Day, February 17. They will also have regular school days, instead of an early release day, on February 26 and March 26.
The school system missed six days last month and opened late three times.
"Missing so much class time disrupted our students' education," Superintendent Marcus Newsome said. "To keep students on pace with our curriculum, we must make up some of that missed time."
Students made up one missed day on January 27, which was originally a teacher workday.
Officials say they could make more changes, if they are required to miss more instruction time due to weather. However they will not use spring break or Memorial Day for makeup days.
