Super Bowl champ gives back to Varina students

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Students at Varina High School sent a taped message to one of their hometown heroes, Michael Robinson.

Fresh off his Super Bowl win, Robinson is their inspiration.

"If he can do it, I think I can do it" said student Mike Neshiwat.

That's what Robinson's "Team Excel" is all about - inspiring and motivating student athletes. On this team are 30 freshmen from different backgrounds with varying pa's.

"Team Excel is very unique," said Johnathan Mayo, who works with Team Excel. "It's a reverse fantasy football program, where students actually become the fantasy athletes and professional athletes and community volunteers serve as head coaches, so we actually score students based on their grades, attendance and community services and they compete for prizes."

The opportunity excites volunteers, and it's a program that even on its first day has students showing their appreciation.
