Hypothermia Precautions

The cold weather is more than just an annoyance it is a dangerous environment that can directly impact your health.

We explain how in this week's Neighborhood Health Watch.

In Tuckahoe- Dr. Lauren Goode is warning about the dangers of hypothermia.

Hypothermia occurs when the body has excessive heat loss. Symptoms include shivering, exhaustion, confusion, slurred speech and drowsiness.

Stay warm by dressing in multiple loose fitting layers. Wear extra items to keep warm such as hats, gloves, scarves and warm shoes or boots.

Get warm as quickly as possible. For body temperature less than 95 degrees F, this is an emergency. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency center.
