CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (WWBT) - The two people claiming to be victims in an attack in Charlottesville last December are now also facing assault charges.
Charlottesville Police arrested two men in connection to the assault in December last year at the Downtown Mall. The two men, Malcolm Stevenson, 25, and Richard Spears, 23, turned themselves in. They are due in court on February 5.
The suspects now claim that they were also victims in the attack. The original victims, Marc Adams and Jeanne Doucette, will be in court on March 21. They are both charged with misdemeanor assault.
The police department is under fire for their handling of the case. The chief has launched an internal review to identify where the breakdown occurred.
