Snow blankets Tri-Cities

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

The Tri-Cities got its dose of winter weather Tuesday night.

When Alex Taylor saw the snow start to fall, he pulled out the pump at a Petersburg gas station, to fill up a container with kerosene. Taylor says he can heat his whole home for hours with a good five gallons.

"It'll heat almost the entire house," said Taylor.

Petersburg roads were covered in snow. Nearby in Prince George, snow melt is sold out at the Tractor Supply Company. Employee Alfred Konwerski says customers have traveled to the store from as far as North Carolina, in search of snow melt. Now, he says people are turning to alternatives to melt snow on their sidewalks and driveways, like bags of fine salt stock, water softening salt, and good ol' sand. Konwerski says the Tractor Supply Company will stay open late for customers, needing to stock up when the snow falls.

"We'll stay open as long as needed for any type of weather conditions that come across like this," said employee Alfred Konwerski.

This way, snow can be whisked away with as little hassle as possible.
