RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A clerk at a South Richmond 7-Eleven fights back during an attempted robbery and wounds the suspect in the process.

Richmond Police tell us 36-year-old Robert Lee Brown is now facing charges including use of a firearm and malicious wounding after he entered the store in the 1300 block of Jefferson Davis Highway around 11 p.m. Saturday wearing a ski mask.

They say Brown showed the clerk a BB-gun and demanded money.  Instead of handing over the cash, a struggle ensued as two 7-Eleven employees attempted to restrain Brown.  During the struggle, police say Brown bit one of the clerks.  One of the clerks had a gun of his own and fired it, grazing Brown in the arm.

Brown ran off, but police caught him a short time later. He was taken to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.  The store clerks are not facing any charges.

Toney Barcroft lives nearby and saw the aftermath of the crime.

Barcroft said, "I saw all the flashing lights of the police cars and then the ambulance pulled up and they walked the guy from around the corner."

Neighbors say that crime is not unusual for this area.

Deon Williams, who lives in the area said "There's a lot of crime in this area anyway, especially at this 7-Eleven too."
