FREDERICKSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

A Fredericksburg Police officer is recovering after police say a woman attacked and bit him.

It happened around 9:50 p.m. Sunday at the Townsend Square Apartments in the 1200 block of Townsend Blvd. Police say the officer was responding to a disturbance between roommates.

According to police, the officer was talking to the male roommate when the female attempted to push the officer out of the way. When the officer tried to restrain her, she resisted and at one point bit the officer in the hand. A second patrol assisted in the arrest.

Police have charged Shenita Brower, 36, with felony assault on a law enforcement officer.

The injured officer was treated at Mary Washington Hospital for a broken hand and received stitches for the wound.
