Getting #RVASnow ready!

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

VDOT workers aren't the only ones getting set for the first big snow of the season. Long lines of customers were buying out the basics Monday night, at grocery and hardware stores.

"Looks like we're really getting it this time," said Balfour Via at Martin's Food Market, on Forest Hill Avenue. He's got a cart loaded with snow-day staples, like milk, bread, and a night of dinner.

A pretty winter scene makes the perfect picture to post online, until Mother Nature starts creating slushy roads and icy sidewalks.

"It seems like there might be a decent amount of snow on the way. So, I figured I'd go ahead and pre-treat the sidewalks in front of my house in the Fan," said Morgan Barnes, at Pleasants Hardware.

The pile of snow melt bags at Pleasants Hardware on West Broad Street in Richmond have been melting away since the forecast called for at least a few inches.

Don't forget the de-icer for car and house key locks, either.

"They're out there with a lighter underneath the key, trying to melt the ice that's already built up inside the lock," said Pleasant Hardware locksmith Kevin Harding, of people who try to melt locks themselves.
